Album Coverart for artist Mase$win
This project was created for an album cover called 'New Energy' for recording artist Mase$win. I collaborated with Mase$win to construct a visual theme that would accurately portray the message of his seven songs which we then executed using a technique called light painting. We built the visual aesthetics and concept around the idea of growth and transformation of the inner self towards a more healthy life. As creative director and photographer, I was involved in planning, staging, photographing, and editing to produce the final product. With a team of people, we were able to experiment with light painting using glow sticks and long exposures. This produced a glow effect around the subject, achieving a visual interpretation of energy which connected to themes of growth and transformation. The finished project consisted of three photographs combined to create a sequence of three images side by side, making one long, horizontal photo that symbolizes past, present, and future.
This sequence of three figures can be interpreted as past, present, and future and has strong connotations of hope and energy. As we move forward in our lives, we enter different chapters, gather new experiences, encounter new people, and develop new relationships. This photograph represents the journey of the inner self which is affected by all these things. It visualizes the process of growth with the concept of energy in relation to our state of being, shown through luminous and electric tracings of the body. As individuals we have the choice to live in the past, present, or future. Our energy and happiness often reflects our outlook on the world and the way we choose to see this process of growth. It is easy to be burdened with the weight of the past or to be caught up in the plans for the future. The ability to be present in life and to accept our mistakes as a part of our growth will release these tensions. As we learn to accept the past as it is, live in the present, and be hopeful for the future, we can live with a spirit rooted in peace and optimism. This artwork ultimately symbolizes this change of energy towards a happier and healthier way of life and encourages you to reflect on how you might view the past, present, and future.
