it’s sum shop

Client: Alex Brookhouse, Los Angeles

Sum Shop is all about experiential art events, space curation, friends and found home goods. They’re goal is to merge gallery and home as well as to support other small artists and creatives. To the left is Alex Brookhouse, the creative designer behind this growing business who resides in the Los Angeles area. Sum Shop offers a variety of home goods such as pottery, furniture, glassware, vases, and other items handpicked by Alex. These items can be bought online or at one of their pop up events. 

This was a series of product photography taken at two separate shoots to be displayed on the Sum Shop website. With Alex Brookhouse as creative director and model and myself as photographer, we gathered our materials, staged the scene, and began shooting. The goal was to maintain a similar style and color scheme while using both outdoor and studio environments for our location.

I had never done an official product photography shoot before this as most of my experience comes from portrait or documentary photography, but I think I came out of this project with a better understanding of how to adjust my own style to fit the vision of some else. It was fun and interesting to work with a creative entrepreneur who was in the process of growing their business and made me more aware of just how hard, but exciting this kind of profession can be.
